We are looking for a passionate Content Editor to join our company as part of our editorial team to manage the content on our digital platforms.


As a content editor, you will be responsible for developing consumer-targeted web content from concept to publication across all our media types and web platforms and drive increased traffic and brand visibility.


Overall you will be responsible to manage school news, including the newsroom, curate content across our media platforms and write content as needed.


This position requires an experienced writer who can create and disseminate engaging content, both in Afrikaans and English.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Write engaging content to engage and attract visitors

  • Schools submit their news to us – manage the team that uploads the information and do quality checks

  • Work quickly and effectively to break school news to our readers to ensure that all news meets our high standards

  • Ensure all published content meets quality standards

  • This means working quickly with good judgment to bring our readers to-the-minute coverage via our digital platforms

  • Monitor and report on web presence and traffic and ensure that content meets the needs and interests of website visitors, editors monitor visitor behaviour by reviewing website statistics

  • Write blog posts and marketing copy to promote our products and services

  • Craft and send our monthly newsletter

  • Optimize published pieces using SEO guidelines

  • Manage the editorial calendar and ensure timely publication

  • Generate new ideas around industry-related topics

  • Formulate a content strategy

  • Manage company Facebook and Instagram channels

  • Proven work experience as a content editor

  • Digital editing skills 

  • Creative mind

  • Attention to detail - with excellent spelling, grammar and punctuation skills

  • Communication skills – both written and oral

  • Produce web content within tight deadlines

  • Creative writing, copy editing, news writing, digital media, and marketing

  • Be able to undertake research using a variety of sources

  • Familiar with content management systems like WordPress with an understanding of the special requirements of writing for the Web, such as the use of keywords, hyperlinks, and navigation

  • Proficiency with Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign would be an advantage

  • Relevant experience at a news organisation would be to your advantage

  • Ability to act decisively and independently

  • Instinct for storytelling and thinking creatively

  • Positive attitude, team player, and a sense of humour

  • Social media savvy
